Homework is given on Wednesday and should be completed and returned by the following Wednesday. For children in Year 4, the main purpose will to practise skills learned in class and provide the opportunity to develop the skills of independent learning.

Parents are encouraged to:

  • Make it clear that homework helps children to make progress
  • Expect deadlines to be met
  • Give praise for completion of homework

The children will be given a maths activity each week. This will take the form of times tables practise and work related to the unit of work they are working on in class.

Children in Year 4 should know all tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of the year.

Children will be given an English activity weekly. This could involve links to our topics, grammar or other writing opportunities. we recommend that all children read for at least 15 minutes a day before or after school. Please sign your child’s Reading Record book each time they read.

Some homework might be set in other subjects which will be linked to the current topics.
