Forest school is our own special and adventurous outdoor classroom within the school grounds, providing exciting and varied opportunities to extend children’s learning. It is a happy and safe environment,
The children have ownership of their Forest School and decide on rules, safety and what they want to do there, the experiences are mostly child initiated.
Activities at Forest School promote the development of the ‘whole’ child having a positive impact on their confidence, resilience, independence and creativity.
The varied experiences and opportunities offered at Forest School include: den building, mini-beast hunting, building campfires and cooking, creating sculptures and collages using natural objects, singing and music making, story-telling, science investigations, tying knots, photography, making mud pies in our muddy kitchen ……..the list goes on!!
As the children learn to care for and appreciate the natural environment we observe the development of their independence and also their leadership and team building skills.
The concepts of Forest School are based on theories of learning, teaching and child development. It is also great fun!!
