We believe that Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing are an essential part of all activities in the curriculum. We ensure that children will experience a wide range of creative and inspiring activities to develop these skills through independent and team work. We want all children to develop a love of reading, read regularly and have the ability to write confidently and fluently.
English is taught using Read, Write, Inc. Through this we use high quality texts to engage children in their English learning whilst also offering a wide range of English enrichment activities, such as inspiring writing weeks, author visits, creative writing workshops and lessons focused on current news and events from children’s lives. Computers, iPads, drama, art and music are all used to support the learning experience in English lessons.
A number of reading schemes are in use, together with a range of other books to support reading development.
