Art and DT
At Leesons Primary School we aim to provide an art curriculum that engages, inspires and challenges our pupils. We want to equip the children with the knowledge and skills to use a range of materials creatively and to use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. The children will record their observations and explore colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space when creating their own pieces of artwork. The children will discover the work of a range of famous artists, designers and architects and observe differences and similarities between them, making links to their own work.
Our DT curriculum aims to develop the children's ability to assess the functionality of existing products and apply that when making their own. Each year group has a DT project that requires the children to go through a design process that leads to making a product. They then evaluate the effectiveness of the product and design process.
Each year, children will also have an additional DT project linked to cooking and nutrition. In this they consider seasonality, availability of food and the idea of a varied, balanced diet when creating mainly savoury dishes linked with their topic.
Here is the overview for Art and DT across all year groups.
