Tables

All children from Year 1 upwards should practise tables for 5 minutes every day please. Aim to know all tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. In order to support your child with learning their times tables, they should be encouraged to use the Times Tables Rock Stars app.

Reading

Throughout the day, children will read for a variety of purposes. They will be taught specific reading skills with the teacher and the teacher will also read a variety of quality stories to the children.

To support this, we recommend that all children read for at least 15 minutes a day before or after school. They should be encouraged to read a range of text types (e.g. stories, letters, instructions, poems, non-fiction, newspaper articles etc.) in order to broaden their vocabulary, develop their comprehension skills, and gain an understanding of the different ways that text can be structured. Please remember to sign your child’s reading record every day so that they can earn their weekly reading raffle ticket.

Spellings

We learn spellings using clued spelling within school. However, your child would also benefit from using the resources below to help with their spelling.
